After yesterday’s posts, a few people said “ooh, racism, that is a touchy subject.”  So what? Isn’t that the point? We can talk about another touchy subject – abortion. Pro-life, pro-choice, whatever. It is not a blanket yes or no issue. It never will be. Stop dreaming. Abortion, just like the death penalty, should always be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

I can hear the people now, “it’s murder, someone could raise that child if the mother didn’t want to.” While that is a good point, it is the choice of the would-be mother whether or not they want to bring a child into the world. I would definitely make that option number one over anything else, but if the girl was the victim of a sexual crime and is now pregnant, those are the times when the choice should be considered. I am not a woman, but depending on who you would ask childbirth can be both the most painful and yet the most beautiful feeling in the world. Abortion is an emotional and psychologically scarring event, and whether or not you want to cry “murder!” is your own decision, I’ll admit, but murder in an off itself is an evil, disgusting act. That is why the courts invented terms like manslaughter and “hey, it was only self-defense.” People have to find a way to psychologically justify it to themselves that they ended another person’s life so that they don’t spend the rest of their lives in mental anguish over what might have just been and accident – or in the case of abortion – the “right” decision.

Law should not be as absolute a concept as we seem to think of it as being. Everything should be looked at fresh, and case-by-case, because regardless of “precedents set” every crime is different from every other crime – whether it be who was the criminal, who was the victim, how it was done, why it was done, and what happened because of it. Everything is different. Will there be some overlap every now and again? Sure. But that just gives you reason to look back on those other cases and see where the similarities begin and end. That is how you formulate a proper opinion.

Abortion is not murder. Manslaughter, maybe, but not murder. There is very little malice in looking at yourself and realizing you made a mistake. Are there plenty of people willing to adopt that are unable to conceive? Sure, but if you are not ready for the parenting, you should not be punished by the birthing that begins it. Just remember that the stigma associated with the act is such that it is almost never the first option, but a last resort – and those last resorts account for only a small percentage of the rising population.

I will not say that I am for the idea of population control as a law, but the quote-unquote overcrowding of the world needs dealt with, first. However, that is a discussion for another time.

Peace,

James.
